Setting your budget is your first job.
Keep in mind that the cost of your car isn't the total cost. You'll have to factor in things like repairs, road tax, spare parts, accidents, wear and tear, insurance and of course fuel.
So it's not just a matter of finding the biggest, shiniest, most powerful car within your budget. After all, you don't want to buy something that you'll have to keep as a showpiece rather than a means of commuting.
