Buying From the Right Place

It's very important to know the person you're buying the car from.  You don't want to drive away with the same set of wheels that was used to rob a bank the night before.  Here are a few questions you can ask your seller before even meeting him.
  1. How many miles has the car done?
  2. How many hands has the car changed?  And how long did each owner have it for?
  3. Could you please describe its condition?
  4. What about mechanical problems and physical damage?
  5. How much time is left before the road tax and MOT runs out?
  6. Does the car have an up-to-date service book?
  7. Was the car financed and is it still pending?
  8. Was the car ever involved in any crime scene or was it ever stolen?
  9. Has it had any accidents?
  10. What are the recent repairs or maintenance that have been performed?
  11. Does the car need any work right away? E.g. Tyres, belts, filters, oil, etc.

First Impression Lasts

When you go to check out the car for the first time, make sure you see the car on a dry day.  Dry so that water doesn't hide dame - and Day so that you can see the car clearly.

Tips:

  • Tell the seller that after checking out the car, you would like to arrange an inspection done by a professional.
  • You don't have to pay a deposit before seeing the car.  Don't feel pressured to do so.
